Advonet and CHANGE are holding a free event next month to plan some work about people’s lived experience of being restrained in health and care settings. This is part of the Care Quality Commission (CQC)’s restraint review.
The work aims to look at people’s experience of restraint and why it was used. Then, it will see what can be done to stop it being used.
The event will be launched with two short speeches. Then, we will ask people help us think through four questions. They are:
- Key questions about restraint
- Different ways of asking them
- Different ways of reaching people who we would like to participate
- How we will offer support to people who take part
These questions will be asked in groups, which will then be fed back to everyone else at the event.
Who is it for?
This planning event is for:
- Health and social care staff
- Parents and carers
- People with lived experience of restraint, seclusion and segregation
Please note that this event isn’t about sharing experience of restraint, its purpose is to plan our work before hearing people’s stories.
After the event, there will be an opportunity for people concerned to contribute to the CQC’s restraint review. This can be done using the hashtag #CQCRestraintReview on social media.
