To mark Safeguarding Adults Week (21st-27th November 2022), Universal Advocacy Manager Libby Plum and Chief Executive Philip Bramson talk about how having an advocate on your side can help if you are going through the safeguarding process.
From start to finish, accessing adult safeguarding services can have plenty of obstacles that seem difficult to overcome. There could be meetings to attend, different people contacting you and you might have concerns about whether your views, rights and wishes are being considered.
If this is something you are going through right now whilst accessing safeguarding services through the local authority we can help you. An independent advocate can make sure you are being heard, no matter what stage you are at.
What can an advocate do?
If you make a referral for advocacy from us, an advocate can help you by:
- Helping you to speak up in meetings
- Help you to say what outcomes you want at the end of the safeguarding process
- Meeting with you to plan what you want to say and help understand the process
- Help you to understand any complicated parts of the safeguarding process
