This summer, we will be holding a free event about how empowering people through self-advocacy can benefit charities and health and care services in Leeds. It will include:

  • Talks from organisations who have previously received grants from the Advocacy Development Fund
  • Opportunities to learn about how advocacy and self-advocacy can help people accessing a variety of services to be heard in Leeds
  • Information about a range of new self-advocacy resources we are working on
  • Workshops about using self-advocacy in different scenarios. They will be on:
    • Increasing access to services for autistic adults
    • Empowering people with learning disabilities
    • Co-producing self-advocacy resources
    • Health Complaints and Self-Advocacy: Improving your NHS

When is the event?

It is on Friday 13th June 2025 from 9:30am to 2pm. Registration at the event is until 10am. The event will be at the St George’s Conference Centre, 60 Great George Street, Leeds LS1 3DL.

Free lunch will be provided, while there will also be time for networking opportunities. Here is a rough schedule of what will be happening on the day:

  • 9:30am-10am: Registration and refreshments
  • 10am-11:15am: Talks
  • 11:30am-12:30pm: Workshops
  • 12:45pm-1:30pm: Lunch and networking

Please note that there is no on-site parking outside the venue itself. However, there are drop-off zones outside the entrance. Alternative parking is available at The Light, St John’s Centre and Merrion Centre multi-storey car parks, all within 10 minutes’ walk from the St George’s Conference Centre.
