Last month, we welcomed people from many different charities and community groups in Leeds to our Advocacy Together event. On the day, we had talks from two organisations who received grants to help build up their existing advocacy work. We also had talks about the innovative ways in which advocacy can help to make people from marginalised communities heard.
At the event, we had a group exercise, asking participants to say what they thought advocacy was. For this, we asked the following questions:
- What is advocacy?
- Are you doing advocacy without knowing it? Advocacy covers a lot of things – no one model fits all
- How can we make advocacy more person-led?
- How can we do more advocacy together?
