Last month, CHANGE, Asking You! and Leep1 went to the Being Social event at Kirkgate Market for Leeds Learning Disability Week and Picnic in the Park at Temple Newsam.
CHANGE were promoting their Heritage Project, which focuses on the history of people with Learning Disabilities and Autism in Leeds and had a range of activities for people to do. Leep1 were promoting themselves and Café Leep. Asking You! hosted the Council Chambers Takeover event and the Learning Disability Pride March with Connect in the North.
At the Being Social event, photographer Jan Wells took photographs of people with Learning Disabilities holding up signs of what they were proud of.
Making Leeds better
People were encouraged to put stickers on where they lived in Leeds and to write down what they thought would make Leeds a better city for adults with Learning Disabilities. This activity was for CHANGE’s Heritage Project.
We also started work on a community art piece by asking people to finger paint, draw or write what they wanted. This will be displayed at the Heritage exhibition in November.
The event was really well attended and we all had fun!
At the Picnic in the Park event, CHANGE shared a stall with Leep1 and Asking You! We networked and spoke to people about the projects that are running. The band Skyfallers played and were fantastic. Like the Council Chambers Takeover, this event was also really well attended.
